Your subject lines are the factor that help you take full advantage of one of your most valuable resources -your email list.

Personalized email messages are more likely to be opened. You might think that your subscribers will open your messages simply because they know you, but remember that they may be on many lists and they won't immediately know who an email is from by looking at the subject line. By using at least the first name of your subscribers, you're creating a personalized message that's far more likely to be noticed than a more generic subject line. Personalization is not hard to do, and it can definitely make a big difference when it comes to the response you get from your email campaigns.

You can get a different perspective on your subject lines by emailing your messages to yourself. When you see the message, forget that you sent it yourself and honestly think about what kind of reaction it provokes. What's the first thing that enters your mind when you see the subject line? Is this something you'd actually want to read? Is your first instinct to get rid of it? Pay no attention to it? Come back to it later? You can decide whether or not your subject line needs changing based on how you responded to receiving it.

Try to stay topical with your emails and subject lines -see what's trending in your niche at this time. Imagine that you are one of your customers -what subject would motivate you to read an email rather than ignore or delete it? Is there a burning issue that you can address right in your subject line to make it stand out from the crowd? You don't necessarily have to come up with a subject line that's totally original or amazing, but as long as it's important to your audience right now, it can be successful.

Email marketing has quite a few elements, but a good subject line is what gets your foot in the door so that your messages are read. So keep the above tips in mind when you create your subject lines, and give this point the attention it deserves. Always keep track of your results so you can find out which subject lines are most effective for you.
